Overview
The Food Service Worker assists with food preparation, service, and sanitation in accordance with established health and safety standards. The role supports kitchen operations by performing routine tasks such as preparing ingredients, serving meals, cleaning work areas, and restocking supplies. The position requires attention to detail, the ability to follow instructions, and effective communication with team members.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare menu items following recipes and portion sizes for consistent quality and timely service.
- Provide exceptional customer service: take orders, answer inquiries, and address concerns.
- Maintain dining, kitchen, and serving area cleanliness following safety standards.
- Assist with receiving, organizing, and stocking supplies and equipment.
- Follow food safety and health regulations and cooperate with team members to ensure smooth dining operations.
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
Ability to stand for extended periods. Lift up to 30 lbs. Reach, bend, and stoop occasionally.
Responsibilities
- Serve food, beverages, or desserts to customers in various settings such as take‑out counters and lunchrooms.
- Cook food or prepare food items using standard formulas or following directions.
- Perform cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, and washing dishes to keep equipment and facilities sanitary.
- Wrap menu items such as sandwiches, hot entrees, and desserts for serving or takeout.
- Scrub and polish counters and steam tables and clean glasses, dishes, and fountain equipment.
- Replenish foods at serving stations.
- Brew coffee and tea and fill containers with requested beverages.
- Take customers' orders and write ordered items on tickets.
- Order items needed to replenish supplies.
- Serve salads, vegetables, meat, breads, and cocktails, ladle soups and sauces, portion desserts, and fill beverage cups and glasses.
- Set up dining areas for meals and clear them following meals.
- Carve meat and deliver orders to kitchens.
Qualifications
- Talking to others to convey information effectively.
- Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.
- Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work‑related documents.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and stand for a normal shift, no more than 8 hours.
- Monitoring and assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
