Food Service Worker – Job Summary

Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, every other weekend, 11:15am-7:45pm.

The Food Service Worker performs a variety of functions related to the safe assembly, distribution, and service of food for hospital patients, visitors, and staff.

Essential Functions

  • Attends department meetings, monthly in-services, training classes, etc as assigned.
  • Anticipates and meets customer needs; takes appropriate steps to rectify issues.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work areas.
  • Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of department equipment.
  • Demonstrates a positive and friendly attitude.
  • Adheres to all HACCP standards.
  • Alerts supervisor to any concerns, discrepancies, product shortages, etc.
  • Actively supports and upholds department goals to maintain or improve operations and customer satisfaction.
  • Works in various tray line, cafeteria and kitchen positions. Sets up and stocks food station for meal service. Assembles patient trays and delivers trays from patient rooms.
  • Cleans station, equipment, and floors at the end of each meal.
  • Position may include operating dish machine, trash compactor, mopping floors.
  • Prepares additional food items for patient tray line.
  • Regularly works on sanitation projects assigned by manager.
  • Assists with training of new employees as well as cross training of fellow employees.

Qualifications

Education – High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.

Experience – Yes, experience can substitute a degree.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Staff adheres to all I C A R E. Standards.
  • Must be able to read menu items in English (exception is the pot-washer position).
  • Must be able to communicate in English (exception is the pot-washer position).
  • Must be able to juggle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Work requires ability to push trucks and carts with food and supplies.
