Summary of Position Fulgent Genetics is seeking a scientifically fluent and commercially driven Business Development Executive – Pharma Partnerships to join our Pharma Services division.
This is a field-based, client-facing role focused on building new partnerships with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies engaged in translational research, biomarker discovery, and clinical development.
The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of experience in business development or scientific sales within a CRO, pharma services, or molecular testing environment, and thrives on identifying opportunities, engaging scientific teams, and driving adoption of Fulgent’s multi-omics and molecular testing solutions.
The role is designed for a hunter — someone who combines scientific understanding with relationship-building skills and enjoys being in the field, connecting with researchers and decision-makers across the pharma‑biotech ecosystem in the assigned territory.
Field Prospecting & Client Outreach
Prospect, evaluate, and negotiate new business opportunities across the biopharma sector.
Identify and engage with new pharmaceutical and biotech organizations.
Build relationships with scientists, translational research leads, and biomarker program managers.
Conduct in-person meetings, networking, and event attendance to expand visibility and uncover opportunities.
Consultative Engagement
Lead scientific and operational discussions to understand client goals and design tailored service solutions.
Collaborate with internal scientific and technical teams to prepare proposals and ensure alignment with project objectives.
Present Fulgent’s capabilities in genomics, proteomics, and other molecular testing platforms clearly and persuasively.
Pipeline Development & Territory Management
Maintain a qualified pipeline of new opportunities through consistent outreach and follow‑up.
Document interactions and progress in CRM (Salesforce).
Provide accurate forecasts and territory updates to leadership.
Demonstrate creative approach for increasing brand awareness through in-field engagement.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Project Management, Laboratory Operations, and Marketing to ensure a smooth transition from initial contact to project launch.
Share competitive and market insights to inform business strategy.
Success Indicators
Consistent generation of new pharma and biotech relationships leading to qualified opportunities.
Strong field presence and reputation within the biotech community.
Effective collaboration with internal teams to deliver timely, high-quality client solutions.
Measurable contribution to new project wins and territory revenue growth.
Knowledge/Experience
Master’s degree or higher in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or related field strongly preferred; Bachelor’s with relevant laboratory or industry experience will be considered.
3–5 years of experience in business development or account management within pharma, biotech, or CRO molecular testing services.
Demonstrated success initiating and developing new client relationships in translational or biomarker programs.
Solid understanding of molecular and multi‑omics workflows (e.g., genomics, proteomics, spatial biology).
Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage both scientific and business audiences.
Highly organized, self‑motivated, and comfortable working independently in the field.
Willingness to travel (~30–40%) for client visits, conferences, and networking events.
