Position Summary The Director of Sales Operations is responsible for ensuring optimal plant loading across all manufacturing facilities by aligning the sales pipeline with production capacity. This role leads Inside Sales and Application Engineering teams, oversees the quotation and order management process, and drives proactive coordination with Sales to ensure factories are filled well beyond the hurdle window (minimum lead time required for production readiness). The position plays a critical role in bridging Sales and Operations, ensuring predictable revenue flow, efficient plant utilization, and profitable growth.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor and manage all incoming inquiries, quotations, and high-probability orders across all market segments.
Track plant production slots, identify gaps, and drive actions with Sales to ensure slots are filled beyond the hurdle window.
Partner with Sales leadership to maintain a balanced, forward-looking pipeline that aligns with plant capacity and strategic priorities.
Quotation & Order Management
Oversee Inside Sales and Application Engineering teams to ensure accurate, timely, and competitively priced quotations.
Ensure all quotations and order entries are complete, accurate, and properly captured in the ERP system.
Lead weekly CNQ (Current and New Quotations) reviews, providing updates on pending orders, probability ratings, and plant loading impacts.
Monitor and adjust pricing levels, lead times, and commercial terms to optimize order hit rates while protecting margins.
Collaborate with Finance and Sales to ensure commercial discipline on high-value or strategic deals.
Develop and maintain accurate sales forecasts for each plant, integrating with Operations and Finance for S&OP (Sales and Operations Planning).
Drive cross-functional collaboration with Sales, Project Management, Engineering, and Production teams to support order execution, capacity planning, and customer commitments.
Support customer visits and high-priority engagements tied to plant scheduling and production commitments.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; engineering or business discipline preferred.
Minimum 10 years of experience in sales operations, product management, or related commercial leadership roles in a manufacturing or engineered-to-order environment.
At least 5 years of leadership experience managing large, multi-functional teams (20+ members).
Strong background in sales pipeline management, production planning alignment, and ERP-driven operations.
Deep understanding of quotation lifecycle, pricing strategy, and order-to-production integration.
Proven ability to drive collaboration across Sales, Operations, and Engineering functions.
Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Preferred location: Roanoke, VA.
Remote candidates considered, with expectation of periodic travel to plants and customer sites.
