Advanced Practice Provider - Cardiology/Surgical Services
Job Overview
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is an independent health care provider who coordinates care through collaboration with the attending Physician The PA or APN provides care in accordance with the objectives policies and procedures of the practice and the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners Physician Assistant/ Nurse Practitioner Advisory Committee The main function of this role is to provide consistent, high-quality perioperative/postoperative care for all surgery patients The APP will be expected to function as an active member of the Surgical and Cardiovascular team Responsibilities include surgical first assisting, perioperative/postoperative management for surgical and cardiac catheterization patients, hospital rounds on inpatients, and emergency room consultations, outpatient diagnostics (Stress Test), and medical decision making/management of Surgical and Cardiovascular patients The APP will be expected to work to the full extent of their licensure with an emphasis on supervised autonomy QUALIFICATIONS
Required (APN/NP)
Current APN Certification Current RN NJ state license CDS DEA Current BLS/ACLS RNFA Certification *exception if Surgical NP certification has surgical assist built into program Required (Physician Assistant)
Current Physician Assistant Certification CDS DEA Current BLS/ACLS Preferred
Acute care certification 3-5 years of acute care hospital experience Scheduling Requirements
Scheduled as needed (Days, Night Shift, Weekends, Holidays) Per Diem Essential Functions
Perform history and physical examinations in preparation for surgical and cardiovascular procedures Order appropriate laboratory, radiologic and special diagnostic tests and interpret and report to surgical and cardiovascular teams The APP may be asked to see emergent consults in the ED and when appropriate treat conditions within the scope of the APP s practice and experience Communication of complicated surgical/cardiovascular emergencies and appropriate preparation for surgery/cardiovascular intervention will also be expected Assist with inpatient daily rounds as assigned This can include insertion/discontinuing central lines including but not limited to chest tubes, arterial lines, wound dressing changes, bed side procedure, insertion of temporary dialysis catheters, daily physical exams, midline catheters, and addressing any concerns of the patients on the service Assist with and perform diagnostic testing (Stress Test) Thoroughly explains procedures to patients Thoroughly explains procedures to patients prior to testing Perform appropriate interpretation of laboratory/diagnostic testing Responsible for discharging patients in collaboration with the attending Demonstrates strong organizational skills, communicates effectively and demonstrates time management Performs duties independently and coordinates care with the bedside nurse, attending physician, and other consulting providers Compassionately interacts with patients across different areas of care
