Compensation Pay Range: $18.58 – $25.01

Description The Nursing Assistant assists in patient care throughout nursing areas, is responsible for the safe transport of patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatch services, and appropriate documentation of services rendered. Functions as an observer for any patient on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require constant observation to maximize safety. Performs general receptionist and clerical duties to facilitate efficient functioning of the nursing unit, and understands the patient’s condition to ensure their care and safety.

Responsibilities

Demonstrate the skills and judgment necessary to provide direct/non-direct care to patients under the direct supervision of licensed personnel.

Observe, obtain and report patient data/status to assigned RN.

Respond to peaks in acuity and emergent situations as directed by nursing staff.

Maintain current knowledge/certification including BLS certification.

Act as a preceptor to new employees.

Accept and respond appropriately to feedback and recommendations for change.

Demonstrate professional working relationships with colleagues from all disciplines.

Stay informed about changes in hospital policy and procedure.

Foster a “Culture of Safety” through personal ownership and commitment to a safe environment.

Verify patient identification with two identifiers prior to the start of any procedure.

Understand individual role/responsibilities in the event of hospital codes and emergency preparedness.

Comply with CDC hand hygiene guidelines, universal precautions, PPE use, and hazardous material disposal. Maintain awareness of MSDS sheets.

Be aware of each patient’s fall risk and use appropriate safety devices and interventions.

Conduct patient safety rounds utilizing SBAR principles and communicate risks.

Use proper body mechanics and patient lifts as needed.

Utilize software applications required by department and unit standards.

Operate effectively during downtime.

Work within legal, regulatory, and ethical practice standards relevant to the position.

Comply with applicable policies and procedures to safeguard patient privacy and security.

Report potential compliance issues to managers or higher authorities.

Comply with mandatory education requirements of compliance, privacy, and security programs.

Convey respect for patients’ and families’ values, preferences, and expressed needs.

Recognize patient and family as important members of the health care team.

Collaborate with patients, families, and staff in planning, implementing, and evaluating care.

Welcoming the presence and participation of family members at all times according to patient preferences.

Consider the individual needs of each person and demonstrate age and cultural awareness.

Interact sensitively with diverse populations and utilize resources such as interpreter services.

Job Requirements

High School Diploma/GED preferred.

Previous Nursing Assistant or equivalent experience preferred.

BLS – Basic Life Support certification required.

Basic medical terminology.

Basic computer skills.

Effective communication and accurate documentation.

Ability to deal efficiently with a wide variety of individuals.

Night shift schedule (11p-7:30a, 40 hours/wk, rotating weekends and holidays).

License/Registration/Certification Requirements

ACLS (AHA) – Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (including courses offered through SSH).

BLS Certification (AHA) – Basic Life Support (including courses offered through SSH).

Instructor – Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Instructor – Basic Life Support (BLS).
