Pay Range Base pay range: $59,787.00/yr – $72,429.00/yr.
Description Supervise Operations field staff on construction and maintenance projects at fishing access sites, wildlife management areas, state forests, maintenance centers, and other facilities. Ensure Health & Safety compliance, manage budgetary responsibilities, training, logistics, and coordinate emergency response during flood events and other declared emergencies. Operate heavy equipment and train subordinates, assist with work planning, scheduling, progress reports, work order record keeping, review time and attendance, and interact professionally with subordinates, coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
Qualifications
NY HELPS Appointment:
No examination required; candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the title. One year of permanent competitive, non‑competitive, or 55‑b/55‑c service in any of the following titles: Conservation Operations Supervisor 1; General Mechanic; Trades Generalist; Service & Repair Assistant (Motor Equipment); Motor Equipment Maintenance Supervisor 1; Maintenance Supervisor 1 (Motor Equipment); Motor Equipment Mechanic; Service & Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment); Sign Painter; Trades Specialist (Sign Fabrication); Sign Shop Supervisor 1; Trades Supervisor (Sign Fabrication); Supervisor Marine Equipment Repair; or Maintenance Supervisor 1 (Marine Equipment).
Open Competitive (Option 1):
Three years of experience in building maintenance, mechanical maintenance, or construction, with at least one year in estimating, supervising, and planning and assigning work.
Open Competitive (Option 2):
Two years of experience in building maintenance, mechanical maintenance, or construction, with at least one year in estimating, supervising, and planning and assigning work, and an associate's degree or higher in civil engineering technology, construction technology, construction engineering technology, electrical technology, electrical engineering technology, engineering technology, industrial technology, industrial engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology, or mechanical technology.
Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet transportation needs.
Must use personal protection equipment, including a respirator.
Must negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and adverse weather conditions, lift and move objects up to 50 pounds, travel, overtime, overnight travel, weekends and holidays, and be available for emergency response and after‑hours emergencies.
Additional Comments
Non‑competitive appointment may apply under the NY HELPS Program.
Reassignment – currently holds the title and is an employee of DEC.
Reinstatement Eligible – previously held the title on a permanent competitive basis or holds a title indicated under the transfer eligible section on a permanent competitive basis.
Transfer Eligible – one year of permanent competitive service at Salary Grade 13 or higher and meets open competitive minimum qualifications.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas.
Travel may be required, and overtime, overnight travel, weekends and holidays may also be required.
