13302 Responsibilities
Supervise Operations field staff on various construction and maintenance projects at fishing access sites, wildlife management areas, state forests, maintenance centers, and other facilities, ensuring Health & Safety compliance, budgetary responsibilities, training, logistics, etc. Assist with coordination of emergency response efforts during flood events and other declared emergencies. Operate heavy equipment and train subordinates to operate equipment safely. Assist with work planning, scheduling, progress reports, work order record keeping. Review time and attendance of subordinates to ensure accuracy. Interact with subordinates, coworkers, supervisors, and the general public in a professional manner. Minimum Qualifications
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment; all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title. Promotion: Must be a qualified employee of DEC and have had one year of permanent competitive, non-competitive, or 55-b/55-c service in one of the listed supervisory or maintenance titles. Open Competitive: Either 1. three years of experience in building maintenance, mechanical maintenance, or construction; one year of which must have been in estimating, supervising, and planning and assigning work. Or 2. two years of experience in building maintenance, mechanical maintenance, or construction; one year of which must have been in estimating, supervising, and planning and assigning work, AND an associate's or higher level degree in a listed engineering or technology discipline. Reassignment, Reinstatement Eligible, Transfer Eligible: Various service duration and salary grade requirements as per the DEC transfer regulations. Additional Comments
Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas, and work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required; overtime may be required; overnight travel may be required; weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response and after-hours emergencies. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
