Talent Acquisition Manager| Building Paulson Cheek’s Future with Top Mechanical Construction Talent
The
Spool Fabrication Coordinator
develops precise spool drawings and fabrication documentation for mechanical piping systems. This role translates engineered designs into fabrication‑ready spools, ensuring dimensional accuracy, material compliance, and efficient shop production. The spooler interfaces closely with engineering, BIM teams, and fabrication personnel to support high‑quality prefabrication and reliable field installation.
Responsibilities
Produce accurate piping spool drawings, including isometrics, weld maps, cut lists, and bills of material.
Break down piping systems into efficient, fabrication‑ready spools.
Interpret P&IDs, layouts, and 3D models to generate complete prefabrication packages.
Validate weld sequences, fitting orientation, tolerances, and specialty component requirements.
Coordinate with welders, fitters, and shop supervisors to resolve fabrication issues or design deviations.
Verify dimensional accuracy and ensure spool buildability to minimize field rework.
Generate detailed material takeoffs for pipe, fittings, valves, supports, and specialty items.
Apply deep technical understanding of Revit and Navisworks to develop, validate, and maintain piping models.
Implement model updates based on RFIs, design revisions, field changes, and as‑built conditions.
Maintain accuracy of project documentation and tracking throughout prefab stages.
Ensure all spools meet applicable ASME, ASTM, and internal QA/QC standards.
Review weld numbering, material specifications, and dimensional data for accuracy.
Support resolution of design conflicts and field coordination issues.
Qualifications Required
8–10+ years of experience producing mechanical piping prefabrication and spool packages.
Deep understanding and extensive hands‑on experience with Revit and Navisworks for piping modeling and detailing.
Strong technical knowledge of piping materials, weld symbols, fabrication processes, and installation sequencing.
Proficiency in interpreting P&IDs, engineered drawings, and construction documentation.
High accuracy and attention to detail in all fabrication deliverables.
Strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with engineering, fabrication, and field teams.
Ability to manage multiple spool packages concurrently.
Problem‑solving mindset with a focus on accuracy and buildability.
Preferred
Experience with MSUITE, EVOLVE, or similar BIM‑to‑fabrication platforms.
Familiarity with BIM coordination workflows and shop production tracking.
