Position Overview Kiewit Power Engineering Group is seeking an experienced-level Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to join our growing team. The role involves providing instrumentation & control discipline technical expertise and I&C team leadership for the execution and evaluation of project designs. Candidates will work independently on small projects or as part of a large multi‑discipline team, collaborating with internal and external engineers, construction partners, and clients to deliver best‑in‑class engineering and design solutions. Responsibilities include support of proposals and estimates, technical design execution, and construction and commissioning support.

District Overview Kiewit Engineering Group, Inc. is a full‑service consulting and engineering firm serving infrastructure and engineering markets. With over 1,300 engineers and design professionals, the firm spans transportation, power, water/wastewater, mining, building, and oil, gas & chemical markets. The Power district includes structural, civil, piping, mechanical, process, safety, electrical, instrument, and control disciplines, focusing on EPC delivery for power facilities across North America.

Location This position can be based in any of the following office locations: Lenexa, KS; Lone Tree, CO; Houston, TX; Raleigh, NC; Phoenix/Tempe, AZ; New York City, NY; or Woodcliff Lake, NJ. For roles in Chattanooga, TN; Detroit, MI; or Richmond, VA, the position will start remotely and transition to a hybrid/in‑office arrangement once the new office is established.

Responsibilities

Act as a lead or support engineer on a multitude of pursuits and projects, providing front‑line technical issue solutions for design, construction, equipment, and/or operations of SCADA system replacement/upgrades and other I&C projects.

Evaluate, select, and apply engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria for projects of all sizes and levels of complexity.

Incorporate the requirements of contract and customer Requests for Proposals (RFPs), professional service agreements, or other contractual requirements to ensure projects meet or exceed goals.

Contribute to the development of client proposals and project cost estimates, leading cost, feasibility, and planning studies.

Develop and apply a comprehensive understanding of departmental design and industry standard methods, applicable codes, and Kiewit guidelines to oversee and/or perform preparation of design calculations, drawings, and specifications.

Formulate and prepare technical specifications, perform bid evaluations of equipment and construction proposals, develop recommendations for equipment selection and contract award, and prepare interface points with construction partners and suppliers.

Schedule, review, and coordinate design efforts with other project personnel.

Oversee and/or directly perform supplier shop drawing review, comment resolution, and approval; perform technical contract administration.

Mentor and direct the work of entry and mid‑level employees for skill development, reviewing their progress and results, and providing coaching as needed.

Coordinate with internal and external partners, including cross‑discipline teams, construction, vendors, fabricators, and owners to address electrical/I&C‑related design concepts, issues, or concerns.

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering from an ABET accredited four‑year college or university.

Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred.

At least 5 years’ experience in instrumentation and controls engineering and design, with a minimum of three years in the power generation market.

Familiarity with control system programming concepts.

Experience with SCADA systems and PLC; DCS system experience considered desirable.

Strong organizational and time‑management skills.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.

Strong work ethic and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done.

Displays leadership and confidence to mentor peers.

Base Compensation:

$103,000/yr – $108,000/yr (actual compensation may vary based on education, experience, skill set, and/or location).
