About Us The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. Description of Work This Correction Enterprise Supervisor III (CES III) position is located at the Correction Enterprise Sign Plant in Bunn, NC. The primary purpose of this position is to supervise, train, and evaluate employees and inmate workers engaged in the production of different types of signs used to mark the highways and streets in North Carolina. This position supervises a variety of technical processes that must meet specific specifications and warranty requirements of NC DOT and the Federal Highway Administration.

Supervises two subordinate staff and approximately 30 offenders

Communicates with NC DOT concerning layout drawings that contain defects

Schedules work production and prepares numerous reports necessary to achieve accurate financial statements

Prepares a variety of written reports concerning raw material inventory

Conducts visual and audio surveillance of plant operations to ensure the custody and security of inmates and facility

Assists plant management in other work assignments as needed

Work is in an environment which may involve exposure to noise, dust, fumes, dangerous machinery, chemicals, body fluids, and falling objects. This may require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, steel toe shoes, protective clothing, etc. The successful candidate must complete and pass COBT to become certified within one year of being hired. All DPS employees may be subject to reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / Management Preferences Salary Range:

$41,655 - $72,897

Experience training and supervising staff in equipment and manufacturing processes.

Experience with and knowledge of equipment involved in metal or sign fabrication.

Experience managing resources including, but not limited to, equipment, raw materials and manufacturing processes.

Necessary Special Qualifications

Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission. Click HERE for specific certification requirements.

Must be at least 20 years of age and a citizen of the United States.

Must possess a valid driver's license.

Pass psychological testing as required by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

Pass physical examination as required by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

Pass drug screening as required by NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.

Attend and successfully complete 6 weeks of Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT) at a Training Facility. Employees shall be scheduled for BCOT during their 2nd week of employment.

Minimum Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an appropriately accredited institution, and three years of progressive law enforcement experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Necessary special requirements: Basic Law Enforcement Certification under North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission. Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license.
