Description:
Senior-level Electrical Estimator to support large capital electrical projects within a project controls environment. This individual will partner closely with Project Managers and Engineering teams to develop, validate, and manage electrical cost estimates from early ROM through definitive estimates. The role is an individual contributor and requires deep hands‑on estimating experience across utility‑scale electrical systems. This is not a junior project controls role. Strong electrical estimating experience is mandatory.
What This Person Will Do
Develop and maintain ROM, Budgetary, Unit Price, and Definitive electrical estimates
Review electrical design documents and scope packages for completeness
Perform quantity takeoffs and validate labor/material pricing
Review, validate, and challenge contractor and EPC bids
Analyze and validate change orders for scope and cost accuracy
Build estimates aligned to WBS and cost-load project schedules
Perform cost analysis, benchmarking, risk analysis, value engineering, and constructability reviews
Support lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives
Work in a matrixed environment, supporting multiple capital projects
Must-Have Qualifications
6-10 years of hands‑on electrical estimating experience
Strong understanding of electrical systems including:
Substations
Overhead (OH) and Underground (UG) cable work
Proven experience estimating large construction or utility capital projects
Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and specifications
Experience reviewing and validating contractor bids and change orders
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
Utility or EPC project experience
Renewable energy projects (solar, wind) – preferred but not required
Experience with On-Screen Takeoff or similar estimating software
Exposure to full project lifecycle costs (engineering through commissioning)
Project controls exposure (WBS, cost‑loaded schedules, risk analysis)
Education Guidelines (Flexible)
High School/GED with 10 years relevant electrical estimating experience
OR Associate’s Degree with 8 years experience
OR Bachelor’s Degree with 6 years experience
(Field-based estimators with strong utility experience are encouraged.)
Work Environment / Logistics
Individual contributor role (no direct reports)
Occasional site visits; must be comfortable in power plant / construction environments
Strong communication skills required to interact with internal teams and contractors
