Position Overview
The American Sign Language (ASL) Medical interpreter is responsible for handling local onsite interpreting sessions to serve our deaf and hard‑of‑hearing community and practitioners in a variety of healthcare clinical settings. This is a unique opportunity that will offer 2–3 days of remote work and onsite in‑person visits.
Job Functions
Provide effective interpreting sessions in a professional manner.
Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to the interpreting context.
Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.
Respect for and understanding of our deaf and hard‑of‑hearing clients, culture and preferences.
Maintain a professional demeanor throughout the sessions.
Render exact and correct concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol.
Qualifications
Fluent in American Sign Language and spoken English.
Excellent listening and retention to maintain a high level of accuracy during interpretation.
Extensive knowledge of the RID Code of Professional Conduct.
Must possess one of the following certifications: CI/CT, NAD IV or above, NIC, BEI.
HIPAA‑compliant work environment and setting.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Sign Language preferred but not required.
