Overview
About the Role
The Financial Assistance Advisor plays a key role in ensuring accurate and up-to-date insurance details are collected from patients and entered into the hospital’s billing system. This position is responsible for managing pre-certifications for inpatient admissions, notifying insurance providers of admissions, and handling applications for programs such as Charity Care, Family Care, Presumptive Eligibility, and Public Assistance. The advisor also educates patients about available New Jersey State programs, including Presumptive Medicaid, NJ State Medicaid, NJ Family Care, and Charity Care. All responsibilities are carried out with a commitment to patient confidentiality, access to care, and professionalism, in alignment with Five Star Customer Service standards. The role also includes cross-functional duties within the Financial Counseling and Charity Care units of Patient Accounts.
Responsibilities What You’ll Do
Collects and updates accurate insurance information from patients in the hospital’s billing system.
Follows up on pre-certifications for inpatient admissions.
Notifies insurance carriers of patient admissions.
Processes applications for:
Charity Care
NJ Family Care
Presumptive Eligibility
Public Assistance inquiry forms
Educates patients on New Jersey State healthcare programs, including:
Presumptive Medicaid
NJ State Medicaid
NJ Family Care
Charity Care
Ensures all activities respect patient confidentiality and access to care rights.
Delivers service in a courteous, professional manner aligned with Five Star Customer Service standards.
Performs cross-functional duties within the Financial Counseling and Charity Care units of Patient Accounts.
Qualifications What You’ll Bring
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible clerical experience.
At least one (1) year must be in a physician’s office, hospital billing office, or insurance company.
Experience must involve billing, collections, or medical insurance activities.
Familiarity with medical terminology is preferred.
Prior experience working in a computerized environment is required.

In compliance with New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is $27.80 -$29.15.
