EHS Specialist

you’ll be the operational lead driving our Environment, Health & Safety programs across the plant. You will assure legal compliance with federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations; while fostering a culture of safety and sustainability, the person will assess and minimize the risk of injury to Schneider Electric employees, visitors, contractors and liabilities arising out of accidents or environmental exposures in or associated with the workplace.

What will you do?

Enforce compliance with EHS policies, programs, and standards, ensuring adherence to federal and state regulations.

Set up and monitor a dynamic, proactive EHS approach aligned to Schneider Electric standards and ISO 45001/ISO 14001 frameworks.

Maintain the plant’s EHS legal register; track and interpret regulatory changes to ensure compliance and timely action.

Drive core programs: Electrical safety, LOTO, machine safety, ergonomics, working at heights, confined space, hot work, contractor safety, and PPE.

Lead site risk management (JSA/JHA, risk matrices, IH exposure assessments) and the Management of Change program for new or modified equipment, processes, or materials. Make sure risk assessment is available for all high-risk activities.

Provide EHS input during new product/process introductions and pre-startup safety reviews.

Manage H&S issues and improvement plans.

Own EHS KPIs and leading indicator dashboards; report out in operations reviews and monthly.

Establish prevention programs to avoid work-related accidents and occupational illnesses, reduce DART/TRIR.

Investigate injuries, near misses, conditions, and incidents to discover root causes and ensure effective corrective actions are implemented.

Conduct audits and inspections, identify non-compliance, and recommend sustainable corrective actions. Monitor and drive completion of the identified corrective actions.

Lead and Maintain emergency response plans and the site; conduct drills for fire, severe weather, chemical release, and medical emergencies; AED/First-Aid programs and equipment readiness.

Develop EHS training (onboarding, job-specific competencies, electrical safety, PIT/forklift, LOTO, machine guarding, chemical handling), with robust record-keeping.

Manage environmental aspects: Waste management (hazardous, universal, electronic waste), profiles, manifests, and vendor oversight. Air emissions, refrigerants, VOCs, and permitting (as applicable). Stormwater and SPCC programs; routine inspections and spill response readiness.

Support GHG/energy, water, and waste reduction initiatives and sustainability reporting.

Establish strong networking with government agencies fire department, OC police, water storm district.

Manage Leading indicators (near-miss reporting, safety observations, inspections, behavioral safety) and coach leaders to build a strong safety culture.

Use Schneider Electric EHS systems/tools to log events, track actions, and manage training compliance.

Who will you report to? Environmental, Health & Safety Manager

What qualifications and skills will make you successful in this role?

Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, safety, or a relevant field (or equivalent experience). ASP or CSP (CSP Preferred). Master’s degree a plus.

3+ years of EHS experience in an industrial environment.

Demonstrated success deploying EHS programs in fast-paced, change-intensive environments with frequent process/equipment introductions.

Strong working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910, EPA (RCRA/CAA/CWA), SPCC, state/local regulations.

Environmental management: hazardous waste, air/stormwater programs, spill response, and environmental reporting (e.g., Tier II, TRI site dependent).

Risk assessment methodologies (JSA/JHA, FMEA, HAZOP) and MOC/PSSR best practices.

Familiarity with ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 systems, audits, and continuous improvement.

Preferred Certifications

CSP, ASP, CHMM, CIH, OSHA 30 (General Industry), First Aid/CPR/AED.

Lean/Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher) is a plus.
