Desktop Support Engineer NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene – Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME)

We are looking for a Desktop Support Engineer to support more than 750 users across nine locations. The role encompasses analysis, implementation, troubleshooting, enhancement, maintenance, and security of the OCME network.

Responsibilities

Assist in maintaining security policies and procedures in coordination with DOITT and NYC Cyber Command.

Administer, configure, and secure wireless phones, tablets, and devices.

Perform security vulnerability remediation on end‑user workstations, laptops, and tablets.

Administer, create, and maintain a patch‑management schedule based on agency needs.

Maintain required patch levels for workstations, laptops, and tablets regularly using automation software or scripting.

Safely decommission devices as per NYC guidelines while adhering to security best practices.

Troubleshoot and research desktop PC, laptop, hardware, and network related issues.

Support IT security operations as an escalation resource.

Participate in security incident handling.

Provide excellent customer service.

Maintain consistent and clear communication with both customers and management.

Special Note Selected candidates will be required to provide a DNA sample by swabbing.

Essential Position This position has been identified as essential. During emergency events, essential positions may require 24‑hour availability.

Work Authorization Authorization to work in the United States is required. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner does not provide sponsorship for international employees for visa applications, extensions, or status changes, including STEM/OPT visas. Applicants must meet all qualifying requirements at the time of application.

Minimum Qualifications

A baccalaureate degree, from an accredited college, with or without twenty‑four (24) semester credits in cyber security, network security, computer science, computer programming, computer engineering, information technology, information science, information systems management, network administration, or a pertinent scientific, technical or related area; OR

A four‑year high school diploma or its equivalent approved by a State’s department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and three years of satisfactory experience in any of the areas described in “1” above; OR

Education and/or experience equivalent to “1” or “2”; College education may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience in “2” on the basis that sixty (60) semester credits from an accredited college is equated to one year of experience. In addition, twenty‑four (24) credits from an accredited college or graduate school in the areas listed above; or a certificate of at least 625 hours in computer programming from an accredited technical school (post‑high school), may be substituted for one year of experience.

Residency Requirement New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. Discuss eligibility with the agency representative at the time of interview.

Salary: $63,079.00 – $89,772.00 per year.
