Description SUMMARY OF POSITION Assist the Aransas County Extension Agents with 4-H program activities, administration and expansion including planning and implementation of projects and other activities. Develop and maintain a positive relationship with school leaders, faculty and staff, students and parents, and the wider community. Increase methods of communication with 4-H and promote the program in the County. Recruit new members and volunteers to reach County 4-H goals for outreach and youth skills development. This part‑time position requires a flexible working schedule to include days, evenings and weekends, depending upon the needs of the 4‑H program. The 4-H Assistant must be willing to safely perform physical activities such as walking, running, swimming, hiking, carrying equipment, bending, moving 30 pounds, kneeling, and standing for long periods of time. Position includes indoor and outdoor activities in various weather conditions.

Organizational Relationships Reports to: County Extension Agent – Family & Consumer Sciences/4-H Coordinator.

Other: Non-supervisory but frequent contact with County officials, employees, and the public.

Essential Duties (Examples of Work)

Increase enrollment, membership, and participation in 4-H.

Promote the 4-H program to members, families, and the public in multi‑media formats including the use of social media; i.e. Facebook and Remind 101, updated at least weekly.

Prepare and send press releases with photos to all area newspapers promoting upcoming 4-H events and reporting on past 4-H events and activities.

Coordinate membership drives including annual membership special events at Fulton Learning Center, R-F Middle, and R-F High schools.

Assist Club Managers in coordination of events including One Day 4-H, Annual Dinner, Commissioners Court presentations, participation in parades, and United Way funding meeting.

Promote the Agriculture & Homemaking (A&H) Show to 4-H members at club meetings and through social media. Develop other methods to increase participation in the A&H Show.

Take photos at 4-H events, and organize them by topic or event in files (computer).

Communicate by phone, email, text, etc. with 4-H families, volunteers and others as needed.

Design/print certificates, thank you notes, flyers, etc. and distribute to schools and around community, as appropriate.

Maintain and up‑date an informative, visually appealing 4-H bulletin board in the AgriLife conference room.

Assist with A&H Show entries, livestock show registrations, etc., as needed.

Routinely attend 4-H Club meetings, activities, and other meetings and training relative to 4-H After‑School Program which may include evenings and weekends.

Actively recruit and appropriately utilize youth and adult volunteers for 4-H program involvement.

Assist project leaders as needed in acquisition of supplies, preparation of materials, communication, etc.

Build and maintain a resource of 4-H curricula and supplies for the program.

Connect projects to grade‑level standards for a more meaningful 4-H program.

Perform related duties as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Qualifications

18 years of age or older.

High school diploma or GED.

Valid Texas driver’s license and clean driving record.

US citizen and able to pass a criminal background check.

Must have own transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous 4-H or FFA experience.

Previous experience working with youth.

Knowledge/Skill/Ability to

Complete online Volunteer, Group, and Curriculum Enrichment Reports monthly.

Keep a record of 4-H account; activity fees, donations, grants, other receipts, and expenses.

Assist with annual Club chartering, IRS documents, and grant applications.

Attain proficiency in 4-H Connect; operate standard office equipment, including copier/fax machine, ten key calculator, and computer using standard word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
