It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well‑being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence.

Description of Work The primary purpose of this position is to provide administrative support to the Quality Improvement/Risk Management/Standards Management department. The employee coordinates and conducts audits under the direction of the Director of Quality Improvement and participates in Risk Management activities such as the event review process.

Responsibilities

Process and maintain safety event forms.

Coordinate with divisional office assistants.

Handle clerical tasks such as answering phones, filing, and submitting hiring packets through the Workday system.

Maintain survey outcomes, complete work orders, manage office supplies.

Monitor the video surveillance system to ensure safety and active treatment.

Work closely with the QI Specialist I to track and enter data into reporting systems and support departmental projects.

Assist the Utilization Review Coordinator by submitting required documents to Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) to support ICF recertifications.

Working hours for the Quality Improvement Assistant I position are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) / Management Preferences Salary Range: $37,782.00 — $66,120.00.

Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:

Experienced as an office assistant or secretary, preferably in a medical setting, with strong organizational and professional skills; able to work efficiently in fast‑paced environments and adapt to change.

Skilled in reviewing and processing information, such as analysis of data, to determine conclusions, actions, or compliance with applicable laws, rules, or regulations.

Capable of compiling complex reports related to quality of care, safety events, privacy issues, and other matters relevant to Quality Improvement management.

Proficient in computer use, including spreadsheets, tables, word processing, and electronic health records (EHR); knowledgeable in office procedures and able to communicate complex information clearly while maintaining confidentiality under the Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Act (PSQIA).

Management Preferences

Graduation from high school with at least five years of office assistant/secretarial experience, preferably in settings serving individuals with developmental disabilities.

Preferred qualifications include experience with patient safety applications, EHR systems, reviewing safety events, using spreadsheets for trend analysis, working in team‑based service delivery, public speaking, and familiarity with ICF/IID standards in residential care environments.
