Swim Lesson Coordinator – Part Time
Under supervision of the Aquatics Director and in alignment with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Swim Lesson Coordinator is responsible for leading, organizing, and teaching swim lessons according to the Red Cross swim program or YMCA of the USA program standards.
Pay Range Base pay: $12.00/hr – $15.00/hr
Responsibilities
Teach swim lessons in accordance with YMCA of the USA standards.
Create a positive and enthusiastic learning environment.
Maintain safety, order, and enforce rules during lessons to ensure swimmer safety.
Keep accurate attendance and skill‑achievement records for each student and each session.
Provide written progress reports to each student.
Use swimming aids to maximize individual practice time.
Utilize written lesson plans to maximize class efficiency.
Assist in planning and leading staff meetings and in‑service training.
Serve as mentor and trainer for new swim instructors.
Conduct evaluations of new swim instructors.
Assist in program evaluation processes.
Assist with parent/participant orientation and effective communication.
Serve as pool deck manager when the Director is unavailable.
Supervise and evaluate swim instructors and manage instructor rosters.
Carry out additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
At least 18 years old.
Minimum of 3 years of teaching or coaching experience.
Minimum of 1,000 hours of teaching experience and/or continuing education.
Current Red Cross WSI or YMCA Swim Instructor Certification.
Current CPR, First Aid, AED, and O₂ certification.
Professional, mature image with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Positive attitude and commitment to the Upper Palmetto YMCA mission.
Physical ability to walk, carry, sit, stand, lift (25 lbs), push, kneel, speak, see, and hear.
