The Structural Pest Control and Pesticides Division (SPC&PD) is responsible for administering and enforcing a wide variety of programs through three Sections: Pesticides, Structural Pest Control, and Sleep Products. The Pesticide Section's overall objective is to protect public health, safety, and welfare, and to promote continued environmental quality by minimizing and managing risks associated with the legal use of pesticides through the administration and enforcement of N.C. Pesticide Law of 1971 and pursuant to regulations adopted by the N.C. Pesticide Board (NCPB).

Duties of the position include working with a broad range of non-regulated and regulated communities, consisting of agricultural producers and commercial applicators while enforcing provisions of the North Carolina Pesticide Law and Regulations. This position interacts with other law enforcement, pest control, medical, and public health experts as well. Primary functions of this position include conducting inspections at pesticide dealers, performing alleged misuse investigations, emergency response to pesticide incidents, administering pesticide license exams, conducting marketplace inspections on misbranded products, pesticide formulation sampling and conducting outreach to the regulated public, and inspecting pesticide application equipment. This position also interacts with several working committees within the Pesticide Section. The work environment includes forestry cut covers, farms, warehouses, dealerships, and containment areas, and some overnight travel is required. This position must possess and maintain a valid NC Driver's License. For permanent consideration, the applicant must pass an employment physical to confirm the ability to wear a respirator within 1 year from the hire date.

The Department does not cover moving expenses. \*\***Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences****Recruitment Range: $37,782 - $46,144*** Experience in pesticide use in agricultural production, landscaping, or other areas.* Ability to convey and/or interpret any policies, laws, and/or regulations.* Must be able to meet and address the public utilizing excellent verbal and presentation skills.* Must be able to compose free-style written reports in a clear and concise manner.* Basic experience with Microsoft Office.Any employment offer may be less than the maximum of the range due to salary equity with similarly situated employees or the selected candidate's related education and experience.
