Brief Description Westminster Canterbury Richmond is looking for an experienced
Social Worker
to provide support and resources needed to enhance the well‑being of our residents, their families and those involved in their lives.
The Westminster Canterbury Richmond community is home to 950 senior adults and growing. We offer our residents a vibrant lifestyle and whole‑centered wellness opportunities throughout the continuum of care ranging from Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care and skilled Nursing.
Qualified applicants will hold a Bachelor’s Degree in social work (BSW) or human services field and have at least one year direct social work experience. Our ideal candidate has social work experience working with older adults and demonstrated proficiency in assisting older adults with the physical and psychosocial challenges of aging.
This full‑time position works onsite at our award‑winning campus adjacent to the historic northside Bellevue neighborhood in Richmond, VA.

Requirements MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Problem solve and counsel residents, families and others as appropriate on issues which impact their daily lives.
Coordinate and support residents during times of transition, including orientation to new areas of residency.
Provide financial resources and aid in obtaining financial assistance.
Serve on committees and support groups, or arrange for educational opportunities for areas of concern for the residents or those involved in their care.
Comply with all applicable corporate, state, and federal regulations relating to required paperwork as well as admission and discharge planning.
Use and adapt to new technologies, including tools, equipment, methods of application, computerized systems and processes, etc., to impact productivity of department and services; keep job‑required technical skills up to date.
Serve on a rotating basis as the Weekend/Holiday Manager on Duty.
Additional duties as assigned.

Sit, walk or stand for long periods of time (4 to 8 hours at a time).

Superior listening skills.
Strong interpersonal skills, including relationship building with staff, residents, families, and the outside communities.
Desired Knowledge, Skills And Ability
Proficiency in assisting older adults with the physical and psychosocial challenges of aging.
Strong knowledge base of community resources.
Required Education And Experience
Bachelor’s degree in social work (BSW) or human services field.
At least one year direct social work experience.
Preference for working with older adults, their families and support systems.
Desired Education And Experience
Master’s degree in social work (MSW); experience working with older adults.
Previous experience in a CCRC.
Required Behavioral Competencies
Demonstrate a definite sense of direction and purpose.
Make course changes when necessary to complete goals.
Take initiative to work with residents, staff and families.
Demonstrate understanding and compassion.
Ability to work effectively within a team.
