This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program the title may be filled via a non‑competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. Within one year of permanent appointment, employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non‑competitive employment status converted to competitive status without competing in an examination.
While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
Open‑Competitive Qualifications To be considered for appointment through an open‑competitive process, candidates must meet the open‑competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:
No education or experience requirements for Office Assistant 1.
One year of permanent competitive or 55(b/c) service as an Office Assistant 1 (Reassignment qualification).
One year of permanent competitive or 55(b/c) service as a title SG‑04 or above deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
A current 55(b/c) eligibility letter; candidates with 55(b/c) eligibility are encouraged to apply.
NYHELPS/55(b/c) Appointment Conditions This position is eligible for 55(b/c) designation and candidates with 55(b/c) eligibility must possess a current eligibility letter and meet the minimum qualifications listed above.
Provisional candidates must take the examination for Office Assistant 1 when it is next offered and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment.
Employment Details This will be a permanent competitive appointment, a permanent non‑competitive appointment, or a temporary provisional appointment. The position allows for the opportunity to telecommute up to 30% each bi‑weekly pay period.
The maximum salary is $43,600 based on annual performance advances and traineeship advances. The hiring rate for new State employees is $36,232. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations, and negotiated union contracts.
