MercyOne Elkader Medical Center is a 25-bed critical access hospital, which provides a vital lifesaving link to rural communities in Clayton County and surrounding areas through ambulance and emergency services. MercyOne is committed to providing quality, personalized and safe health care close to home. The emergency department is staffed 24/7 with board certified physicians and advanced level practitioners. MercyOne Elkader Medical Center is certified as a Level IV Trauma Center by the Iowa Department of Public Health.
We are looking to hire a Maintenance Technician to perform routine building and grounds maintenance tasks: carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, emergency generator, boilers, etc. They will manage communication with contractors and vendors and perform other tasks as assigned.
Responsibilities
Inspect buildings and other structures to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions and making repairs as needed. Order parts, make notes, maintain required documents. Perform minor repairs of functional systems. Perform and document required daily, weekly, monthly and yearly departmental PMs. Assess safety at all times and outsource to contractors when necessary.
Perform minor electrical maintenance to include but not to be limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (ex: wall switches and outlets; incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes; ballast; sockets; fuses; minor appliances, cords, etc) using appropriate hand, power and specialty tools. Assess safety at all times and outsource to contractors when necessary.
Complete minor plumbing maintenance (ex: replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, replacing drain hoses on washers and similar devices, etc.) Assess safety at all times and outsource to contractors when necessary.
Perform minor painting, carpentry and masonry work (ex: preparing surfaces and using brush, sprayer, or roller to apply paints, stains and varnishes, hanging doors, fitting locks and handles, etc.). Assess safety at all times and outsource to contractors when necessary.
Perform inspection, repairs, operation, and PMs on Boiler systems. Assess safety at all times and outsource to contractors when necessary.
Perform inspection, repairs, operation, testing, and PMs on backup electrical generator. Assess safety at all times and outsource to contractors when necessary.
Plan and execute remodels or reconfigurations of workspaces (ex: moving furniture/assets, wall panels, work surfaces, storage bins, lighting, file cabinets, wiring, plumbing, etc) to accommodate user needs and maximize office space. Using various hand, power and specialty tools, dollies, and hand trucks. Assess safety at all times and outsource to contractors when necessary.
Coordinate with outside contractors for inspections, repairs, and construction jobs. Obtain and compare quotes, prepare SBARs, obtain PO’s, and schedule work.
Responsible for snow removal and cleaning of parking lots, sidewalks, grounds and other work areas, including coordination with outside vendors or entities as necessary. Assess and ensure the safety of employees, patients, and visitors.
Monitor and record required information for infection control, for both internally performed maintenance jobs and contracted work. Maintain department records for Quality Assurance initiatives of the hospital. Schedule inspections and repairs of Life Safety Code systems (fire alarm, sprinkler system, fire extinguishing systems).
Assist with equipment assembly, troubleshooting, and repairs of medical and non-medical equipment. Escalate to Support Service Director as needed.
Interface with work order system to monitor, plan, and execute repairs and requests.
Must be able to work flexible hours including on-call maintenance hours.
Day-time EMS driver duties as assigned by EMS Manager.
Schedule
PRN, varied schedule.
General Requirements
Valid Driver’s License
Ability to create an environment for the patient/patient families through personal contact in the waiting area and/or patient rooms.
Maintain good organization skills.
Ability to maintain a professional working relationship with a variety of customers including contractors/vendors.
Ability to utilize a variety of construction tools.
Education
High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
