Aerospace Component Manufacturing – Senior Tooling Design Engineer

Location: Sylmar, CA. Salary: $100,000.00 – $120,000.00 annually. Employment type: Full-time. Seniority: Mid–Senior level. Function: Engineering and Information Technology. We are seeking a highly motivated and capable Engineer who can use their experience to be an immediate impact on the Tooling/Engineering group. Responsibilities

Lead the design and development of tooling solutions using SOLIDWORKS, including advanced assemblies and design optimization. Integrate PLC programming, controls, and systems automation into tooling designs to improve manufacturability, safety, quality, and throughput. Apply automation to enable advanced measurement devices and methods for better process tracking and control. Design and develop jigs, fixtures, inspection tooling, forming molds, and other tooling components using both hard tooling (CNC, machining, welding) and soft tooling (fiberglass, carbon fiber, epoxy, resin, 3D printing) techniques. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams and act as a process reviewer, defining technical requirements, reviewing workflows, and mentoring manufacturing engineers to adopt design‑focused thinking. Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to technicians and engineers during tooling implementation. Support continuous improvement initiatives by redesigning or upgrading existing tooling to optimize efficiency, ergonomics, and reliability. Maintain detailed CAD models, drawings, BOMs, design packages, and technical documentation. Conduct design reviews and risk assessments, presenting solutions and recommendations to stakeholders. Serve as a subject‑matter expert in tooling design methodologies, fabrication processes, and automation integration. Qualifications

Seven (7) or more years of experience in tooling, manufacturing engineering, or related design roles required. Two (2) or more years of senior‑level engineering or design leadership experience required. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related engineering field required. Mastery of CATIA and/or SOLIDWORKS CAD software, including advanced assemblies preferred. Strong knowledge of PLC programming, controls, and systems automation with practical application in tooling integration preferred. Demonstrated expertise in designing tooling using hard tooling (CNC, machining, welding) and soft tooling (fiberglass, carbon fiber, resin, 3D printing) processes required. Experience creating jigs, fixtures, inspection tooling, and forming molds for production and NPI programs required. Ability to integrate measurement systems and process‑tracking methods into tooling solutions preferred. Proven success mentoring cross‑functional teams and guiding engineers to adopt a design‑focused mindset required.
