Position Summary The Department of Music invites part-time faculty candidates for Lecturer in Double Bass within the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences. This faculty position will teach applied double bass lessons and may also be asked to teach other courses or coach ensembles. Responsibilities also include recruitment, attendance at departmental studio hour, and helping to lead string seminar, as needed, on Thursdays from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of part-time faculty members at the university include teaching and professional activities as assigned.

This position is not benefits eligible.

Essential Functions Basic Instructional Duties:

Prepare course outlines and teach based on approved departmental syllabi; prepare and deliver consistent, interactive lectures.

Prepare and administer timely and meaningful assessments for assigned courses.

Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure standard curriculum outcomes are met.

Be available outside of class to help students learn as well as answer their questions (1 hour per 3-hour class, physically and/or electronically).

Adhere to UW Faculty Handbook policies and procedures, including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.

Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.

Maintain contact with the department chair and participate in meetings upon request.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Must be able to teach weekly applied lessons;

Ability to deliver instruction in person;

Ability to effectively learn, use, and incorporate instructional technology into teaching;

Willingness and flexibility to teach day, evening and weekend sections as needed;

Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;

Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA .

Required Education Master’s Degree in Music with an emphasis in Double Bass Performance or related field.

Required Work Experience

At least two (2) years of experience teaching double bass.

Evidence of significant performing experience on double bass.

Preferred Qualifications Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations N/A

Work Hours

Based on course assignment.

Attendance, as needed, at departmental recital hour and string seminar on Thursdays, 1:30-2:45 p.m., as well as instrumental juries, hearings, and recitals, as needed.

Physical Demands Typical of faculty in this discipline and instrument.
