Overview
Maryland Golf & Country Clubs is seeking a dedicated and service‑focused Assistant Golf Professional to support the daily operations of our premier private‑club golf program. This role emphasizes golf operations, tournament administration, merchandising, and member service, with instruction serving as a supplemental responsibility.
The Assistant Golf Professional reports directly to the Director of Golf and works collaboratively with the golf operations team to ensure an exceptional member experience .
Experience Required Minimum Qualifications
PGA or LPGA Class A Member, or Associate actively progressing through the PGA PGM Program
Strong understanding of golf operations, tournament administration, and customer service
Experience in a private‑club environment preferred
Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, POS systems, and tournament software
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Professional appearance and demeanor
Essential Responsibilities Golf Operations & Member Services
Assist with golfer check‑in, tee‑sheet management, fee collection, and pace‑of‑play monitoring
Support all opening and closing procedures for the golf operation
Oversee golf car operations, practice facilities, and club‑storage services as needed
Deliver exceptional customer service and maintain a welcoming, professional atmosphere
Play golf with members in both competitive and social settings
Coordinate golf activities with other club departments
Tournament & Event Support
Assist in planning, organizing, and executing tournaments and weekly events, including:
Pre‑event preparation and communication
Course setup
Scoring and leaderboard management
Prize distribution and post‑event follow‑up
Support men's, women's, and junior golf associations and their seasonal programming
Merchandising, Equipment & Club Services
Assist with merchandising operations, including:
Receiving, pricing, and display
Inventory control and special orders
Member sales and product recommendations
Provide basic club‑repair services
Conduct club fittings as needed using available technology and fitting systems
Instruction & Player Development (Supporting Role)
Conduct individual lessons and group clinics as scheduled and approved by the Director of Golf
Support junior, women's, and beginner programs developed by the golf staff
Utilize teaching technology when appropriate, while maintaining instruction as a secondary focus
Assist with player‑development initiatives using PGA tools and resources
Administration & Professionalism
Maintain accurate records, assist with reporting, and support operational planning
Manage the club's USGA Handicap System with accuracy and timeliness
Uphold a professional image and serve as a role model for staff and members
Maintain PGA membership or actively progress through the PGA PGM Program
Stay current on industry trends, customer‑service strategies, and golf‑operations best practices
