at the University of Akron invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Molecular Physiology position starting in August 2026. We seek a tenure-track faculty in molecular physiology, or related areas, who can maintain an active research program and teach cell biology, molecular physiology, molecular methods, or similar topics to a diverse range of students. This position fills a critical need to provide Biology and Biomedical Science majors with training in molecular and/or cellular physiology and related topics, which are integral for modern healthcare professionals.
Successful applicants will demonstrate an ability to conduct research in fields such as proteomics and metabolomics, systems biology, cell signaling, pathway and network analyses, or cell physiology with applications that might range from infectious diseases, to sustainable agriculture/climate change, to microbiology, to topics in human health like metabolic disorders, cancer cell biology, tissue repair and regeneration, neurogenerative diseases, or molecular basis of disease/aging.
This faculty member will also provide research opportunities to our large undergraduate population, as well as supervising Master’s and Ph.D. students. A modest start up package will be offered.The mission of the Department of Biology is to provide students with a broad understanding of biology, spanning molecules to ecosystems, through community engaged teaching, research, and service.

This hire would support education in our biology and biomedical science majors, graduate education in the Integrated Bioscience PhD program, and potentially reach into the underserved communities in our local urban school systems in Akron and Northeast Ohio.
