Position Information Position Title: Lecturer - English SPS Special Session (Spring 2026)

Position Summary The School of Professional Studies invites part-time faculty candidates for Lecturer in English. Position will teach as part of a special session with up to 20 assigned students for session periods of four weeks, before next cohort begins. Instruction will be 3 hours per day delivered online synchronously (3 days a week—M/W/F) and in person at Fort Sam Houston (2 days a week—T/R) in San Antonio, Texas.

In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching and professional activities as assigned.

This is a government contracted program with an expected term of three years. Note that candidate must be able to successfully acquire military clearance for in-person instruction at military base of Ft. Sam Houston JBSA.

This position is not benefits eligible.

Essential Functions

Prepare course outlines and teach based on approved departmental syllabi; prepare and deliver consistent, interactive lectures for cohorts at Fort Sam Houston.

Design and update course content as needed.

Prepare and administer timely and meaningful assessments for assigned courses.

Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure standard curriculum outcomes are met.

Be available outside of class to help students learn and answer their questions (1 hour per 3-hour class, physically and/or virtually).

Adhere to UIW Faculty policies and procedures, including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.

Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.

Maintain contact with the academic affairs team and participate in meetings upon request.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to deliver all instruction online (3 days a week) and in person at Fort Sam Houston (2 days a week). Classes will be 3 hours each day, and online classes will be presented synchronously.

Ability to effectively learn, use, and incorporate instructional technology into teaching.

Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.

Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.

Required Education Master’s Degree with 18 graduate hours in relevant English discipline.

Required Work Experience Experience teaching adult learners.

Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching at the collegiate level.

Work Hours Expected in-person/online instruction hours: 8:30-11:30am OR 12:30-3:30pm.

Physical Demands Typical for faculty in this discipline.
