Join BD! The Manufacturing Unit Leader will own production, processes, and people within the manufacturing unit, fully responsible for delivering on SQDC targets, eliminating losses through B.D. Excellence, and growing the team’s capability. The role covers a designated product line, setting goals, making decisions, and driving accountability toward department objectives.
Responsibilities
- Accountable for the achievement of key strategic, operational and functional goals.
- Develop and mentor the manufacturing unit to empower results-focused production and associate capability development.
- Coordinate and drive all activities within the manufacturing unit and set priorities.
- Develop and lead the manufacturing unit’s budget and headcount levels.
- Establish and communicate challenging SQDC goals.
- Translate manufacturing unit targets into lines/areas/workplaces and ensure each associate understands expectations with documented, specific, and measurable targets.
- Initiate and champion change to meet short- and long-term SQDC goals for lines and areas.
- Resolve issues timely while displaying servant leadership.
- Develop the team in alignment with BD values.
- Run the TMS cycle for lines/areas and set 24‑hour direction for the manufacturing unit.
- Conduct yearly performance reviews, maintain active development plans, and hold regular 1:1s to support team growth.
- Lead DTM activities, creating DTM work processes (e.g., CIL, CL).
- Facilitate BD Excellence implementation within the unit.
- Collaborate with Logistics to establish production schedules and monitor delivery performance.
- Ensure regular, timely, and accurate assessments of hourly associates through mentor activities.
- Address associate issues and concerns, involving HR when needed.
- Build mastery in operations, people management, and BD Excellence.
- Allocate over 50% of time to overseeing floor activities.
- Perform other duties as required to support the business.
- Ensure compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures, and all relevant regulations.
- Maintain punctual attendance as a crucial job function.
- Read, write, and converse in English.
- Uphold BD values.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- BA/BS Degree in Science, Industrial Management, Business, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent education and experience).
- 5 years of manufacturing experience in a highly automated environment required (7+ years preferred).
- 3 years of team‑lead experience required (5+ years preferred).
- 3+ years proven ability in a similar role.

Work Environment
- Smoke‑free campus: no smoking, electronic smoking devices, marijuana, or tobacco products are allowed on BD property.
- False eyelashes, press‑on fingernails, and jewelry are not allowed on the production floor; any dermal products must be covered.
- Steel‑toe, non‑slip shoes are required for all associates on the production floor.
