Job Title: Plastics Engineer
Job Description
As a Plastics Engineer, you will lead all aspects of the plastic component lifecycle, from initial concept through design, testing, and production within an active manufacturing environment. This pivotal role involves prototyping, testing, analysis, and managing the entire product realization process. You will be responsible for the design of precision plastic and elastomeric parts, injection molds, and transfer molds, ensuring exacting workmanship standards for dimensionally accurate, repeatable, and flash‑free parts. Additionally, you will engage in extensive cross‑functional collaboration with management, engineering, mold makers, operators, and vendors to continuously improve parts, tooling, and processes.
Responsibilities
Lead the lifecycle of plastic components from concept through to production.
Design precision plastic and elastomeric parts, injection molds, and transfer molds.
Ensure high standards of workmanship for dimensionally accurate and repeatable parts.
Prototype, test, and analyze to manage the product realization process.
Collaborate with management, engineering, mold makers, operators, and vendors to enhance part and tooling processes.
Serve as the liaison between engineers and mold makers.
Analyze and improve legacy mold designs and processes.
Essential Skills
Expertise in mold design and tool design.
Proficiency with SolidWorks, TopSolid, Moldex3D, or similar design tools.
Strong knowledge of new product development and mold documentation.
At least five years of experience in plastic part design, mold design, tool design, injection molding operations, and manufacturing engineering.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
B.S. degree in Plastics Engineering or similar engineering discipline from an accredited university.
Medical or scientific design experience is preferred.
Desire to learn about new developments in the plastics engineering field through trade shows, professional texts, and technical papers.
Work Environment The position is onsite in Essex, CT, offering a mix of desk and shop floor work. Job Type & Location Permanent position based out of Westbrook, CT.
Pay and Benefits Pay range: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year.
Company‑sponsored Century Preferred Medical/Dental plan with Anthem BCBS, free for employees and family coverage, no deductible for in‑network medical; office visits $30 copay.
Profit sharing plan after 18 months of employment, with annual distribution of 22‑28% of base salary over the past five years (20% in cash, 80% in PSP).
Vacation: 3 weeks per year initially, increasing to 4 weeks by year 12 and 5 weeks by year 22, with carry‑over if unused. Nine holidays and six additional sick/personal days.
Life insurance, AD&D coverage, short and long‑term disability at no cost to the employee.
Tuition reimbursement for approved college courses related to current or future job responsibilities.
