Summary The Pharmacy Buyer is responsible for purchasing pharmaceuticals for the acute care pharmacy as well as managing day‑to‑day inventory operations. The role includes maintaining stock of inpatient medications, procuring non‑formulary items, and ensuring procurement processes align with Rush policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Coordinate supply chain processes for purchasing and receiving pharmaceuticals for ambulatory infusion sites.

Oversee monthly pharmacy medication expenses and tracking items with increased expenses.

Utilize split‑billing software to appropriately order medications on 340B and non‑340B accounts.

Provide monthly reports of contract compliance and tracking of drug savings.

Maintain pharmacy purchasing systems and assist with implementation of inventory database.

Manage patient supplied medications within the ambulatory infusion pharmacies.

Coordinate purchasing of medications on the formulary, including adjusting par levels and finding suitable alternatives during drug shortages.

Coordinate procurement of non‑formulary items in collaboration with ambulatory infusion leadership.

Evaluate alternative medication dosage forms for cost savings and coordinate interchange of new alternative medications.

Meet with vendor representatives as needed for contract and product information.

Participate in Pyxis inventory optimization, altering drug inventory levels as required.

Proactively manage stock outs, optimizing inventory levels while preventing over‑stock.

Perform within the framework of RUMC/HDM, L.L.C. policies and procedures.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.

Two or more years of relevant experience required.

Must hold CPHT and/or PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) and/or EXCPT certification.

Strong analytical, problem‑solving, written communication, and interpersonal skills.

Flexible with work schedule.

Dependable attendance and job performance.

Active participation in pharmacy professional or peer organizations.
