Overview
The Director of Environmental Services / Maintenance is responsible for the overall cleanliness, safety, and physical condition of the facility. This role oversees housekeeping, laundry (if applicable), maintenance, and grounds to ensure a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment for residents, staff, and visitors in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. Compensation
Base pay range: $55,000.00/yr - $65,000.00/yr Responsibilities
Environmental Services (Housekeeping & Laundry)
Direct and supervise housekeeping and laundry operations to maintain a clean, sanitary, and odor-free environment. Develop and implement cleaning schedules, procedures, and infection control practices. Ensure proper handling, storage, and use of cleaning chemicals and supplies in accordance with OSHA and facility policies. Conduct routine inspections and audits to ensure compliance with CMS, state regulations, and infection prevention standards. Train, schedule, and evaluate environmental services staff. Collaborate with Nursing and Infection Prevention staff to support resident safety and infection control initiatives. Maintenance & Plant Operations
Oversee preventative maintenance programs for all facility equipment, systems, and structures (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety systems). Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies to minimize risk and disruption. Ensure compliance with Life Safety Code (LSC), fire safety regulations, and emergency preparedness requirements. Coordinate vendor services and manage service contracts as needed. Maintain accurate documentation for inspections, repairs, and regulatory compliance. Safety & Compliance
Ensure facility compliance with CMS, state health department, OSHA, and fire marshal regulations. Participate in facility surveys, inspections, and corrective action plans. Lead safety initiatives, including fire drills, disaster preparedness, and emergency response. Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS/SDS) and ensure staff training on safety procedures. Administrative & Leadership Responsibilities
Develop and manage departmental budgets. Order supplies and equipment while maintaining cost control. Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities. Collaborate with leadership to support resident satisfaction and facility operations. Maintain professionalism and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA standards. Qualifications
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or associate degree preferred. Experience in environmental services, maintenance, or plant operations, preferably in long-term care or healthcare. Prior supervisory or management experience required. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Knowledge of long-term care regulations, Life Safety Code, and infection control practices. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities. Working knowledge of building systems and preventative maintenance programs. Ability to respond to on-call emergencies as needed. Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to walk, bend, kneel, climb, and stand for extended periods. Ability to work in varied environmental conditions. Working Conditions
Indoor and outdoor work environment. May require evenings, weekends, or on-call availability. Exposure to cleaning chemicals and mechanical equipment.
