Overview
Quarterhill is looking for highly skilled Senior System Engineer to join our Infrastructure Engineering team. This role is key to designing, implementing, and maintaining our enterprise IT infrastructure across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver, experienced in Linux administration, virtualization, cloud platforms, automation, and DevOps practices.
Responsibilities What You’ll Do:
Architect, deploy, and maintain complex cloud (GCP, OCI, AWS) and on-premises systems.
Manage Linux environments (RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS) across production, development, and test environments.
Configure and manage virtualized environments (VMware vSphere) and server hardware (Dell, SuperMicro).
Build and maintain containerized platforms (Docker, Kubernetes), including cluster setup and orchestration.
Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize availability using Prometheus, Grafana, Zenoss, and Loki.
Ensure compliance with security best practices, backup processes (Commvault), and disaster recovery plans.
Support CI/CD pipelines for application and infrastructure deployments (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to cross-team knowledge sharing.
Maintain comprehensive system documentation, architecture diagrams, and operational procedures.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications What We’re Looking For
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent experience.
5–8 years of experience in system engineering, cloud infrastructure, and Linux administration.
Expert-level Linux administration (RHEL, Ubuntu, CentOS).
Experience with VMware virtualization and hardware management.
Proficiency with Docker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration.
Knowledge of cloud platforms (GCP, OCI, AWS) and networking concepts (DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalls).
Familiarity with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Zenoss) and backup solutions (Commvault).
Experience with automation/configuration management tools (Ansible, Terraform, CloudFormation).
Strong understanding of security best practices, encryption, and TLS/SSL certificate management.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certifications in Linux, Cloud (GCP, OCI, AWS), or Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD).
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, container security, credential management (FreeIPA, Active Directory).
Knowledge of S3-compatible storage solutions (MinIO) and working in air-gapped environments.
Core Competencies:

Excellent communication skills; able to convey technical concepts to non-technical teams.
Collaborative, self-motivated, and process improvement-oriented.
Able to mentor junior team members and share knowledge.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
Primarily on-site in Frisco, TX or client locations. Remote work from home most Fridays.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs for hardware setup and maintenance.
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods (up to 4 hours).
