Overview The Expanded Care nurse is a specialized infusion registered nurse who acts as a professional caregiver as a member of the interdisciplinary team. The nurse promotes a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach towards patients, families, and all members of the care delivery team. Responsibilities include administering chemo, removing chemo pumps, IV infusions/injections, IV antibiotic teaching, blood products, therapeutic phlebotomies, coordination and provision of direct and indirect patient care, and documentation of care.
Qualifications
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), within 1 year, American Heart Association (AHA)
Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN), Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
Pediatric Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider Course, 1 year, Association of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (APHON)
Basic Life Support (BLS), within 30 days, American Heart Association (AHA)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), within 1 year, American Heart Association (AHA)
Education: H.S. Diploma/GED
Responsibilities
Work within a team-driven setting to drive results and provide customer satisfaction to clinicians while working independently on assigned tasks.
Ensure the ordering provider’s office has entered appropriate orders and obtained insurance authorization and referral prior to scheduling or treating patients.
Enter and release therapy plans to coordinate care of the patient population.
Administer medications as prescribed or in accordance with approved algorithm(s), documenting medical justification and effectiveness.
Perform ongoing supervision of patient response at each visit and document in the patient medical record.
Provide patient documentation via notes in the electronic medical record (EMR) according to department policy, including treatment notes and patient response to treatment.
Communicate with physicians and pharmacists via phone or EMR regarding patient updates and condition changes.
Schedule appointments and effectively communicate appointment schedule and expectations to patients.
Demonstrate knowledge of and support the hospital mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality statements, corporate compliance plan, customer service standards, and standards of behavior.

Compensation and Benefits The compensation range for this position is $32.21 per hour – $55.4 per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
