JOB SUMMARY

This position provides accounting support for assigned department functions. An incumbent in this position may be designated "Accountant II" at the higher pay grade.

MAJOR DUTIES

Maintains controls and balances on the accounting of university funds to include the reconciliation of state funds and bank accounts.

Assists in the preparation and monitoring of assigned operating budgets.

Prepares journal entries and support documentation.

Prepares annual audit schedules, adjusting entries, and summary reports for audited financial statements.

Assists departments with inquiries related to operating budgets.

Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors in transactions; ensures adherence to standards, policies and statutes.

Prepares a variety of financial reports.

Assists in the administration of the procurement card program as assigned.

Maintains fixed asset records and performs annual equipment inventory as assigned; analyzes expenditure accounts for proper equipment classification and prepares correcting journal entries and fixed asset adjustment.

Performs related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.

Knowledge of university accounting policies and procedures.

Knowledge of budget management principles.

Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs.

Skill in decision making and problem solving.

Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.

Skill in oral and written communication.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The Controller assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES

Guidelines include generally accepted accounting principles, the Financial and Accounting Report Manual, state statutes, Regional University System of Oklahoma guidelines, policies of the Office of State Finance, and university policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection and interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

The work consists of varied financial accounting duties. Strict regulations and the need for accuracy contribute to the complexity of the position.

The purpose of this position is to provide accounting support for assigned department operations. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of those operations.

Contacts are typically with co-workers, other university personnel, students, and members of the general public. Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, to provide services, or to justify, defend or settle matters.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table. The work is typically performed in an office.

SUPERVISORY - AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY

None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

Ability to be bonded.

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureatedegree in a course of study related to the occupational field.

Annual salary $39,828.00 with excellent benefits, including generous leave time.
