POSITION CONCEPT The Payroll Analyst ensures payroll is processed accurately and on time for multiple affiliates, remittances for retirement plans, federal and state tax programs, and other payroll activities. The role supports bi‑weekly processing, monthly and annual tasks in a cyclical, end‑to‑end payroll process. The analyst builds and applies an understanding of 16+ state tax and labor regulations and SAP Payroll modules. The position operates under general supervision and relies on experience, judgment, and analytical skills to plan and accomplish tasks.

PAYROLL ANALYST I PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Analyze and review transactions to process payroll accurately and on time for various pay groups and companies.

Maintain daily support activities, including accurate employee information.

Analyze and review adjustments for proper payment and labor distribution; prepare and audit data for accurate journal entries.

Monitor and maintain time and pay records to ensure completeness and accuracy.

Provide specialized support for payroll operations, assisting other employees across the company.

Perform special processing, such as monthly and bi‑weekly payments of employee deductions, preparing special reports, and reconciling checks and G/L entries.

QUALIFICATIONS – Payroll Analyst I Education

Required: High School diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Licenses/Certifications

Preferred: CPP (Certified Payroll Professional).

Experience

Required: 1 year in payroll or a related environment (payroll, accounting, bookkeeping, AP, taxes, advanced admin duties with SAP time‑entry).

Preferred: Working knowledge of SAP Payroll Module.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

Required:

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).

Meet deadlines, self‑initiative, adapt in a fast‑paced environment.

Apply fundamental payroll and tax regulations to business needs.

Proficient in Microsoft applications.

Preferred:

Payroll tax filing knowledge.

SAP time‑entry and payroll concepts knowledge.

PAYROLL ANALYST II PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform all Payroll Analyst I duties with added independence.

Handle monthly and bi‑weekly employee deduction payments, special reports, and reconciling G/L entries.

Support projects arising from business initiatives (Union negotiations, new company, etc.).

Document and troubleshoot minor system issues and coordinate resolutions.

Support year‑end and year‑start reconciliations, testing, and team coordination.

Assist in testing/implementation of system upgrades and business requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS – Payroll Analyst II Education

Required: High School diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, HR, or related field.

Licenses/Certifications

Preferred: CPP (Certified Payroll Professional).

Experience

Required: 3 years in payroll or a related environment (same as I).

Preferred: Sound working knowledge of SAP Payroll Module; payroll/HR system coordination experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

Required:

Resolve non‑routine situations via payroll regulations proficiency.

Proficient in Microsoft applications.

Apply fundamental payroll and tax regulations to business needs.

Preferred:

Payroll tax filing knowledge.

PAYROLL ANALYST III (Senior Analyst) PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform all Analyst I & II duties.

Primary SAP system responsibilities: manage payroll processing, inbound/outbound interfaces, and troubleshooting system issues.

Lead annual reporting on financial publications and regulatory reporting; file tax forms with IRS.

Coordinate payroll projects, including testing with IT analysts and system enhancements.

Conduct research and recommend solutions for payroll/tax compliance and accounting issues.

QUALIFICATIONS – Payroll Analyst III Education

Required: High School diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, HR, or related field.

Licenses/Certifications

Preferred: CPP.

Experience

Required: 5 years in payroll environment.

Preferred: Payroll/HR system coordination experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

Extensive payroll knowledge for process enhancements; apply regulations and assess risks.

Proficient in Microsoft applications.

Storm Duty Requirements Responding to storms is a condition of employment. Team members may be required to participate in emergency response and recovery activities to maintain service to TECO Energy customers.
