Salary Range: $6,579.41 – $7,761.50 per month
Pay Frequency: Monthly
Shift and Schedule
Primary Shift: Evening (first)
Additional Shifts: Days (second), Nights (third), Weekends
Possible overtime, on‑call duties, rotating schedule

Job Summary This position provides direct nursing care for residents of State Supported Living Centers (SSLCs) who are medically fragile or have behavioral challenges. The nurse performs routine nursing tasks, administers medication, monitors patients, documents care, responds to emergencies, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, and participates in quality improvement initiatives.
Essential Job Functions
Attend work as scheduled, including rotating shifts and overtime as required.
Provide routine nursing tasks and procedures in accordance with HHSC, SSLC and state regulations.
Administer medications, immunizations, treatments; observe patients for reactions.
Document and report treatments and observations accurately.
Assist LVNs and Certified Medication Aides; provide instructions and recommendations.
Participate in QA/QI initiatives; maintain compliance with infection control and safety procedures.
Respond to emergencies, ensure safety of residents and staff.
Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, administrators, and others for optimal patient care.
Assist in implementing protocols to improve health and safety.
Maintain treatment records and prepare reports as required.
Participate in disaster response, continuity of operations as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of nursing techniques, health care laws, medical diagnoses, procedures.
Knowledge of state and federal regulations for SSLCs and Intermediate Care Facility procedures.
Skilled in patient care, use of electronic health record systems.
Excellent verbal and written communication; able to present ideas clearly.
Ability to work independently, support LVNs and staff, and make clinical decisions.
Demonstrated working knowledge of emergency procedures and equipment.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications Licensed to practice as a registered nurse in Texas or a state that participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact.
Initial Screening Criteria
Work experience as a practicing registered nurse (minimum 6 months in a health agency, hospital, or health‑care facility).
Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Additional Information Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks. Males (18–25) must register with the Selective Service. All applicants must be at least 18 years old. Random drug testing and background checks are required. Flexibility for overtime, extended hours, weekends, and holidays may be required.
