Southpoint Surgery Center (SPSC), an affiliate of North Carolina Specialty Hospital, is a new Ambulatory Surgery Center located between Raleigh and Durham in the Durham-Southpoint area. SPSC provides a differentiated outpatient delivery model focused on high-quality, cost-effective surgical and related care. The facility is 22,298 sq. ft. and accommodates Ortho, Spine, Ophthalmology, ENT, GYN, General, Urology, Plastics, Podiatry, Vascular, and Pain. Responsibilities
Provide individualized nursing care to the surgical patient, applying extensive knowledge to support a variety of single and multi-system illnesses or injuries. The RN controls the environment within the surgical suite and develops and coordinates a safe plan of care in line with standards of practice and facility policies.
Apply age-specific standards for adolescents, adults, and geriatrics in medication administration, analgesia, anesthesia, and related procedures; follow age-specific policies for treatments and procedures based on patient age.
Incorporate cultural and developmental needs into the plan of care in collaboration with patient/family; demonstrate competency in standard nursing practice in a developmentally appropriate manner.
Demonstrate excellent communication, organization, and decision-making skills.
Prioritize tasks to maintain patient safety amid interruptions.
Document patient care in the patient record according to established standards.
Participate in Universal Protocol and time-out procedures for every procedure.
Work with a multidisciplinary team (surgeons, PAs, anesthesia providers, SPD staff, Radiology, and OR team members) to plan care and optimize patient outcomes; advocate for the patient and adjust the plan as needed while communicating with the team.
Participate in performance improvement activities, including data collection and analysis to identify quality measures and support improvement initiatives.
Education And Experience Requirements
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Associate's degree required; BSN preferred
Current RN licensure in North Carolina or a compact multistate license
BLS from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required on hire
ACLS & PALS from AHA or ARC preferred; must obtain both within 6 months of hire if not currently active
CNOR Certification strongly preferred
Familiarity with instruments and equipment related to perioperative nursing
Manual dexterity in handling instruments
