Overview
Geotechnical Staff Engineer role at Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associates, Inc. in Ashland, VA. You will work with our geotechnical and materials testing/inspections departments on a wide variety of projects for public and private sector clients. Responsibilities include test boring/test pit observations, laboratory analysis, preparation of geotechnical reports/calculation, management of field staff, review of daily field reports, and on-site construction materials testing services.

Assist with a wide variety of geotechnical projects for public and private sector clients.
Test boring and test pit observations.
Laboratory analysis and preparation of geotechnical reports/calculation.
Management of field staff and review of daily field reports.
Perform on-site construction materials testing services.
Qualifications
BS in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
A valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record and reliable vehicle.
Ability to meet pre-employment requirements.
Ability to occasionally work nights, weekends, and travel overnight.
Ability to move up to 60-80 pounds (soil and concrete samples, nuclear gauges, etc.).
Familiarity with engineering and construction plans/specifications.
Prior experience with subsurface exploration or construction inspection a plus.
EIT working toward PE preferred.
Familiarity with geotechnical software (e.g., GeoSystems, Gint, L-Pile, MSEW) a plus.
