Overview
The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) invites applications for full-time, tenure-track faculty positions in mechanical engineering with a focus on sensing, controls, and/or robotics. Appointments are available at any rank commensurate with experience and qualifications. To be competitive for tenure at the Associate Professor or Professor level, candidates should have a strong track record of research funding and national recognition for scholarship. Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields, demonstrate potential or established success in leading-edge research and high-quality publications, and be qualified to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in the department. Responsibilities
Conduct high-quality research in sensing, controls, and/or robotics, with areas including simulation and machine learning, human-machine interaction, and soft robotics. Collaborate with existing UAB strengths across biomedical engineering, materials engineering, neuroscience and neuroengineering, rehabilitation, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and other biomedical areas. Seek and secure external research funding; contribute to graduate and undergraduate education; participate in department, college, and university service. Teach undergraduate and graduate courses within the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering. Research and Collaboration Areas
Sensing, controls, and robotics; simulation and machine learning; human-machine and human-robot interaction; soft robotics. Leveraging UAB resources such as the Center for Neuroengineering and Brain-Computer Interfaces, the Center for Engagement in Disability Health and Rehabilitation Science, the UAB Driving Simulator, and the Materials Processing & Applications Development Center. Qualifications
Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Strong potential or proven record in leading-edge research and high-quality scholarly publications. Ability to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in the Department. Application Documents
