Open Rank – Robotics & Mechanical Engineering – #240982 Position Summary Western Carolina University (WCU) is seeking faculty candidates in mechanical engineering or a related discipline with expertise in robotics for an assistant, associate, or full professor rank position.

The primary location is the main campus in Cullowhee, NC. This opening is a nine‑month, tenure‑track position focused on robotics and related topics. Faculty routinely teach in multiple topical areas at undergraduate and graduate levels.

Successful candidates will be committed to teaching, scholarship, and professional service. Applied research that engages students, especially undergraduate students, is a hallmark of our program.

WCU’s Engineering and Engineering Technology programs are accredited by ABET and are committed to inclusive excellence.

Responsibilities

Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in robotics and related topics.

Conduct applied research that engages students.

Support university external engagement and quality enhancement programs.

Participate in professional service as required.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications

A PhD or equivalent terminal degree in an engineering discipline closely related to robotics, such as mechanical engineering, prior to August 1, 2026.

Preferred Qualifications

Three years of relevant industry experience.

Professional engineering licensure and registration.

Research experience, funded grants, refereed publications, and undergraduate and graduate student supervision.
