Overview Assist the Department Manager in planning, organizing, staffing, training, and directing Grocery Department associates; perform production and customer service functions; maximize store sales and profits safely and ethically in accordance with policies and procedures. Responsibilities

Assist the Department Manager in organizing work, filling department staffing needs, and training and scheduling associates to provide prompt courteous service.

Respond appropriately to customer or associate comments, complaints, requests, accidents and questions in a prompt, tactful, calm, courteous and professional manner.

Use Computer Assisted Ordering (CAO) to manage ordering, ensure proper accounting of product received, and maintain balance on hand.

Perform and direct others in pricing and displaying merchandise; maintain proper signage, rotation, freshness, quantity, quality and space allocation.

Engage and counsel associates in effective merchandising techniques, customer services, product presentation and promotional activities.

Follow company programs and policies, especially dress code, grooming, sanitation and maintaining a harassment‑free environment.

Provide department input on budgets, goals, and results; communicate with associates and customers to create a positive impression.

Maintain equipment and facilities safely in accordance with company procedures; keep floor, shelves, and grocery areas clean and sanitary.

Promote and implement company initiatives and process improvements to direct reports.

Demonstrate aptitude for managing people and organizing workloads; perform any assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications

Willing to work flexible hours, mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Effective written and oral communication skills.

Ability to make intelligent decisions quickly.

Tactfulness and calmness under stress; positive first impression on associates and customers.

Effective production, merchandising and customer service skills related to sales of merchandise.

Understanding of all key department operations: people, merchandising, CAO, inventory, shrink control, customer service, labor scheduling, expense control, etc.

Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations: employment practices, OSHA compliance, etc.

Qualified to operate power machinery and use job tools such as power jacks, box cutters, label guns, balers, compactors.

Desired Qualifications

Grocery retail work experience and/or backup manager experience.

Past work record reflects dependability and integrity.

Capability to assist the Department Manager in organizing work and training scheduling associates.

Comfort using CAO and inventory systems.

Proficiency in pricing, displaying, and rotating merchandise.

Strong mentoring and coaching skills for associates.

Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming store environment.

Eagerness to promote, communicate and implement company initiatives.

Aptitude to manage people and plan workloads effectively.

Flexibility to perform any assigned duties.
