Our Transportation Operations department is currently in search of an Auto Mechanic B L1-2. The ideal candidate will possess the necessary knowledge and skills to diagnose, maintain, and repair a diverse range of company vehicles. This includes, but is not limited to, cars, vans, and trucks, as well as various types of equipment. The role demands a thorough understanding of automotive systems, a problem‑solving mindset, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
Core Responsibilities
Candidates must possess comprehensive knowledge of various vehicle systems and hands‑on experience to successfully repair systems such as drive trains, hydraulics, and coolant systems.
Ability to perform labor‑intensive tasks which include but are not limited to pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 lbs, extensive walking, climbing, standing, driving, and working in, under, and on top of all types of vehicles and equipment.
Candidates must possess a CDL A license or have the ability to obtain one within a 12-month period.
Must be able to obtain applicable certificates of fitness from the NYC Fire Department and a New York State DMV Inspectors Certification within 6 months.
Selected candidates may be assigned to any Transportation Operations garage located in Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, Manhattan, or Westchester.
Transportation Operations will provide selected candidates with all automotive repair tools needed, including a uniform and a safety shoe stipend.
Required Education/Experience
High School Diploma/GED and 2 years of relevant work experience or a relevant automotive certificate from a post‑secondary vocational school in Auto Mechanics/Automotive Technology (or related field) or
Associate's Degree In Auto Mechanics, Automotive Technology, or a related field
Relevant Work Experience
Have knowledge and hands‑on experience repairing drive trains, hydraulics and coolant systems. Required
ASE certifications in Engine Repair, Electrical and Brakes or equivalent industry/major manufacturer’s certifications. Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
Driver's License Required
Other: Certificate of Fitness from FDNY 180 Days Required
Other: NYS DMV Inspectors License 180 Days Required
Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class A 1 Year Required
Physical Demands
Perform heavy manual labor, i.e. push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs
Work in, under, and on top of all types of company vehicles and/or equipment
Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half‑face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
Work rotating shifts, including nights, midnights, weekends, and holidays
Additional Physical Demands
Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
