Brief Job Description: Licensed-Only Facilities Surveyor – Starting Market Rate Salary $60,431.88. Protect residents’ health and safety by conducting inspections in Texas long‑term care facilities to assess compliance with state and federal laws.
Essential Job Functions (EJFs)
Conduct on‑site licensure inspections, complaints, incident investigations, and annual surveys in facilities.
Communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders to provide, exchange or verify information, and resolve issues regarding services in long‑term care facilities.
Conduct exit conferences with facility staff and help develop corrective plans.
Complete inspection or survey reports detailing deficiencies, recommended remedies, and narratives to support regulatory findings.
Visit facilities to verify correction of previously cited violations.
Perform quality assurance reviews of documents prepared by others.
Occasionally testify at hearings or court proceedings.
Complete referrals as appropriate.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Interpret policies, procedures, and regulations.
Work independently and exercise professional judgment.
Use computer for writing reports.
Integrate complex regulatory concepts and processes.
Multi‑task and manage competing priorities.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Know program regulations, procedures, and survey techniques.
Understand acceptable professional standards of care.
Operate personal computers and software.
Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications
Valid driver’s license.
Initial Screening Criteria
Experience in conducting investigations related to quality outcomes.
Experience in quality assurance/compliance and oversight/auditing Preferred.
Four‑year college degree preferred.
Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities preferred.
Additional Information Flexibility in work hours is required. The position requires 80% travel, including statewide, overnight, and weekend travel. On‑call duties for emergencies or high‑priority situations may be required. Reliable transportation is necessary. The position allows a compressed workweek of four 10‑hour days.

If accepted, employees cannot work at any HHSC regulated facilities or providers; conflicts of interest and secondary employment must be disclosed. Prior licensing and Employee Misconduct Registry checks are required for certain former nursing facility administrators, certified nurse aides, or medication aides.
HHS agencies use E‑Verify and require I‑9 documentation on the first day of work.
