Conducts advanced food service and environmental sanitation inspections in Region 6/5S jurisdiction, including mobile food vehicles, retail food facilities, public schools, and temporary events. Performs environmental sanitation inspections for compliance with TFER and related Texas Health and Safety Codes; investigates consumer complaints and foodborne illness outbreaks; documents findings and provides recommendations for compliance. Responds to public health emergencies; uses inspection software; submits reports timely; collaborates with supervisor and local health departments. Maintains regular jurisdiction; inspects youth camps, pools, playgrounds, and related facilities; prepares inspection reports and enforcement documents as needed. Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited college/university with a bachelor’s degree in public health, food and nutrition, environmental science, or related field with at least 30 hours in basic science or natural science, or equivalent as required by the Sanitarian criteria. Licensure/Registration: If not already a Registered Sanitarian in Texas, must meet educational requirements and pass the Texas Registered Sanitarian Examination within six months; must apply to become Sanitarian-In-Training; Registered Sanitarian status must be obtained within two years. Licensure: Valid Texas driver’s license or equivalent. Preferred: Registered Sanitarian in Texas; experience in food safety inspection. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: knowledge of state/federal food safety statutes, HACCP, inspection techniques; proficiency with inspection software and Microsoft Office; strong communication and time-management skills; ability to travel; ability to lift up to 50 lbs; ability to climb/bend/stand for extended periods. Work Conditions and Requirements

Travel up to 80%; shift: Day; full-time; non-exempt; telework not eligible. Disaster response/COOP participation as needed; use of state-owned or personal vehicle with mileage reimbursed; valid driver’s license verified; immunization policies may apply. Salary and Benefits

Salary range: $3,793.41 - $5,921.25 per month; pay frequency: Monthly; FLSA Nonexempt; Benefits through Texas ERS. Starting salary follows DSHS guidelines; background checks may be required; E-Verify; I-9 documentation required on first day. Application and Additional Information
