Salary:
$21.00 an Hour
About The Role The Shelter Caseworker supports homeless individuals in Livingston County by completing an intake for clients and providing support services while they are in the warming center. The caseworker connects clients with community resources and promotes long‑term stability. Essential duties include empathy, effective communication, problem‑solving, crisis de‑escalation, multi‑tasking, attention to detail, and solution‑based results. Clients are referred by DSS. The caseworker welcomes the client, acclimates them to the facility and ensures safety and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
Provide coverage to the warming center as scheduled or needed.
Regularly monitor all areas of the facility for appearance and safety.
Manage inventory and maintenance needs and report to DSS.
Complete incident reports per agency procedures.
Sign in clients upon entry.
Assist clients with community resources and problem‑solving.
Develop an individualized approach to create a calm and cohesive environment.
Requirements
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with community partners and maintain professional relationships.
Flexibility adapting to client needs and varying schedules.
Prioritization, planning and completion of projects with minimal direction.
Exceptional time‑management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office and relevant online platforms.
Ability to maintain confidentiality with discretion.
Behavior and attitude supporting organizational mission, philosophy and policies.
Cooperative, helpful manner with all individuals.
Willingness to foster agency & program‑wide cooperation and teamwork through positive communication.
