THE POSITION

The Department of Human Services, Wernersville State Hospital is on the lookout for Equipment Operator As to complete our team. This position gives you the opportunity to utilize your specialized skill set to ensure the safe and efficient functioning of our State Mental Health Hospital. DESCRIPTION OF WORK As an Equipment Operator A, your primary role will be to provide on‑grounds transportation for consumers, although other duties will be assigned as needed. Work involves operating a variety of equipment and vehicles to transport supplies, ensuring the grounds are maintained in a safe and attractive condition, and performing snow and ice removal. You will be responsible for completing general maintenance of equipment and vehicles, including cleaning the interior and exterior, waxing, performing minor repairs and preventive maintenance, and/or assisting the automotive mechanic with major repairs. You will also be expected to complete safety checks and inspections of equipment prior to leaving the grounds in order to maintain compliance with Department of Transportation regulations. Additional duties include performing manual work with powered and non‑powered tools, loading and unloading trucks, cleaning streets and catch basins, and cutting and trimming grass and brush.

Work Schedule and Additional Information
Full‑time employment
Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, work every 3rd or 4th weekend, with a 30‑minute lunch. Work schedule may be changed based on operational needs. Overtime may be required and subject to emergency call‑in.
Telework:
You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary:
In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Six months experience in the operation and maintenance of large vans, buses, and single‑chassis trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 10,001 pounds or more; or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements
This position requires possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver’s license.
Conditions of Employment
This position requires the selected candidate to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within the probationary period.
