Could this be you? Pharmacy Refill Specialists work in collaboration with medical providers and their care team to provide the highest quality of care delivery, by ensuring all medication requests are answered and processed promptly and accordingly based on the practice’s Guidelines.

How you can make a difference

Answer incoming phone calls in a call center environment regarding prescription refills and utilize call auxiliary statuses to indicate availability to answer calls.

Process prescription refill requests in real time from incoming calls, and electronic prescription refill faxes from pharmacies within Athena EMR.

Maintain a rotation schedule for on‑phone and off‑phone work; Specialists will rotate working pharmacy electronic fax requests (off‑phone work) and incoming calls for Rx refill requests (on‑phone work).

Work in collaboration with providers and their care team to ensure all medication requests are answered and processed promptly and in accordance with the practice’s guidelines.

Provide support to the clinician staff by reviewing all refill requests that come into the clinic refill inboxes and assuring that the medication protocols have been met; it is expected that all clinical Rx refill boxes will be as close to empty as possible by the end of business each day.

Send courtesy refills when appropriate and send Return to Office requests when appointments are advised and/or labs are needed.

Coordinate patient care information related to medication refills with other healthcare providers and teams.

Attend staff meetings and provide input into evaluation of processes and suggestions for improvement.

Skills for success

Ability to work a Mid Shift schedule – 8:30 am – 6:00 pm – required.

High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution.

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant course (required).

1+ years of Medical Assistant experience

(preferred).

Certified Medical Assistant Certificate/License (strongly preferred).

Some experience working in a Call Center (customer service experience will be considered), and/or handling high volumes of incoming calls (strongly preferred).
