Summary : The Jekyll Island Authority seeks outgoing, responsible, and energetic Guest Service staff to represent Jekyll Island and enhance the visitor shopping experience at the new District Shops including 31‑81, North Pole South, Georgia Grown, Pier Road Outfitters, and JP & Co Vintage Photography Studio. Under limited supervision, the Gift Shop Guest Service responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing exceptional customer service to visitors, personalized shopping assistance, performing sales transactions, operating a digital camera and printer system, and maintaining the appearance and stock items of the Gift Shop. This Gift Shop Guest Service position is part‑time, year‑round and requires flexible scheduling, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Hours and days will vary.

Demonstrates exceptional customer service skills, assists customers with a personalized shopping experience.

Demonstrates a high level of enthusiasm and self‑motivation.

Operates point of sale system for retail sales.

Operates a digital camera and printer system; directs and positions guests to achieve the best photographic results.

Deposits all receipts, completes verification of deposit records and ensures all monies are accounted for.

Provides visitors with information helpfully and courteously.

Participates in training activities to optimize customer service skills.

Restock inventory and maintain a clean and orderly sales floor.

Assists with special projects as assigned.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years old.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Strong communication skills, ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Basic computer skills.

Flexible availability, including weekends and evenings.

Regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled work shifts is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years of retail/customer service experience preferred, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.

Computer skills, including Microsoft Office preferred. MacOS familiarity is a plus.

Experience with digital photography is a plus.

Licenses / Background Checks

Employment is contingent upon successfully passing criminal, credit, and motor vehicle record (MVR) background checks.

Credit check required for all positions assigned to handle cash transactions regularly.

A valid driver’s license is required for tasks that involve travel between JIA‑operated locations while on duty, whether using a state‑issued or personal vehicle. All drivers must comply with Georgia state laws.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Exert up to 35 pounds of force occasionally and up to 15 pounds frequently and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

More than 50% of a typical workday will be spent walking, standing, balancing (standing on and using 1–2 steps), reaching, using fingers to handle objects such as money, and using repetitive wrist, hands, and finger motions.

Between 25% and 50% of the typical workday will be spent stooping (bending at the waist) and lifting.

Less than 25% of the day is spent kneeling, crouching, sitting, pushing, and pulling.

Spend more than 50% of the day communicating (talking and hearing).

Use close vision regularly to operate POS systems, read labels, count money, and prepare/analyze data and figures.

Work primarily takes place indoors in a climate‑controlled retail space.

Work includes regular exposure to outdoor conditions (e.g. walking between buildings or locations). This may include extreme heat, rain, cold temperatures and other weather conditions.

Noise level is considered normal to loud, depending on visitor traffic and special events.

Work is subjected to hazards such as moving vehicles.
