Job Title: Compost‑ Wood Grinder Operator

Location: 2251 Silver Creek Rd, Fort Worth, TX 76108

FLSA Classification: Non‑exempt

Position Type: Full time

Typical Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:00 am - 4:00 pm, Saturday 7:00 am - 1:00 pm, as needed

Pay Range: $24.00-$26.00 per hour, DOE

About the role The Grinder Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining grinding machinery to process materials according to production specifications. This role involves setting up, operating, and troubleshooting grinding equipment, ensuring quality control, and adhering to safety and maintenance procedures.

What you’ll do

Machine Operation

Set up and operate grinding machines, including surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, and bench grinders.

Adjust machine settings such as speed, feed rate, and grinding wheel position to achieve desired material specifications.

Monitor machine performance and adjust as needed to maintain optimal operation.

Quality Control

Inspect and measure finished products using precision tools and instruments to ensure they meet quality and tolerance standards.

Identify and address defects or inconsistencies in the material being processed.

Maintain accurate records of production output, machine settings, and quality control measures.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting

Perform routine maintenance tasks, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn parts.

Troubleshoot and resolve minor mechanical issues with grinding machinery.

Report major equipment problems or maintenance needs to the supervisor or maintenance team.

Safety and Compliance

Follow all safety protocols and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper handling of grinding materials.

Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies to maintain a safe working environment.

Conduct regular safety inspections of grinding equipment and work areas.

Material Handling

Load and unload materials into and out of grinding machines.

Handle and store grinding materials and finished products properly to prevent damage and contamination.

Manage material inventory and report any shortages or excesses to the supervisor.

Documentation and Reporting

Maintain accurate records of production activities, including machine settings, output quantities, and incidents.

Prepare and submit reports on production performance, machine maintenance, and quality control findings.

Process Improvement

Identify opportunities for improving grinding processes and efficiency.

Collaborate with team members and supervisors to implement process enhancements and optimize machine performance.

Qualifications & Skills

Education : High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or vocational training in machining or a related field is preferred.

Experience : Minimum of 2‑3 years operating horizontal or tub grinders.

Skills

Proficiency in operating and adjusting various types of grinding machines.

Strong understanding of material properties and grinding techniques.

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.

Excellent attention to detail and strong problem‑solving skills.

Familiarity with safety standards and practices in a manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements : Ability to lift and move heavy materials, stand for extended periods, perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and precision.

Working Conditions The role involves working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and potentially hazardous materials. Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required. May require working shifts or overtime depending on production needs.
